Hello, keloid scars often occur in individuals who are genetically prone to it, and is often seen over the chest, arms, back as well as along surgical scars. In addition to being a cosmetic problem, it may cause uncomfortable symptoms as well.
In some individuals, their keloids continue to increase in size and can be painful and itchy. Treatment options include:
1. Topical silicon gels
2. Intralesional steroid injections
3. Combination laser and steroid injections
At our clinic, we usually perform combination treatment with the VBEAM (pulsed dye) laser and steroid injections.
Good to excellent results can often be seen after 3-5 monthly treatments. It is quick, not too painful and offer good outcomes for the large majority of patients. In some cases, recurrence may be an issue and maintenance treatments are required. Hope this helps!
Best regards
