Another name for a sunspot is a solar lentigine. This is is a well-circumscribed 'coin-shaped' looking brown patch that is commonly found in sun-exposed areas, like the face and the arms. This type of pigmentation is at the top layer of the skin and is best removed using a Q-switch Nd:YAG laser. It can take 2-3 treatments for complete removal. Sometimes, I use the green light (511nm) from the Dual Yellow laser to remove the superficial pigmentation. The only downside with laser treatments is that sometimes hyperpigmentation from the laser treatment can develop after the procedure. This is temporary and is usually treated with lightening creams and sun protection.
