If disc bulges have been identified in the cervical or lumbar region on MRI, and the patient is symptomatic (neck or low back pain), there are several ways of non-surgical treatment. It would also be important to find out whether the disc bulges are causing compression or stenosis of the spinal cord or nerve roots, and whethere the patient has any symptoms such as pain or numbness in the upper or lower limbs.

Non-surgical treatment modalities would include medication (anti-inflammatory medications and nerve vitamins), and physical therapy to help strengthen the affected area, improve the range of movement and relieve the pain.

Some people also do other activities like swimming, yoga or pilates. Injections may also sometimes be indicated if the symptoms do not improve with the above treatment.

Kind regards
