Dear Sir,

Thank you for your question. Monkey flu and monkey pox are different
entities with different presentations and symptoms. Monkey flu is caused by
the B virus (also known as herpes B, monkey B virus, herpesvirus simiae,
and herpesvirus B). Monkey pox is caused by the Monkeypox virus, which is
an Orthopoxvirus, a genus of the family Poxviridae that contains other
viral species that target mammals. They are, however, both found in the
macaque monkeys, and may be transmitted via bites, respiratory droplets and
bodily fluids. The best precautions, I suppose, are to stay far away from
macaque monkeys which are commonly seen in Singapore. Do not feed or play
with monkeys.
