What are the risks and potential complications in getting dental implants?

Doctor's Answer

To list every single risk and complication of dental implant surgery is beyond the scope of this session. But I am happy to mention some of the more common ones here:

  1. Failure of osseo-integration of the dental implant due to poor healing or rejection
  2. Injury to nerves, soft tissues and other anatomical structures around the surgical site
  3. Gum recession or bone recession around the implant with time
  4. Infection of the gum and soft tissue around the implant ( peri-implantitis)
  5. Breakage or fracture of the implant, implant abutment or implant crown
