What could be the cause of dark spots after a pico laser session?

Doctor's Answers 1

While pico-lasers are pigment lasers used to treat laser responsive pigmentation, pico-laser treatment can induce post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation which may take several months to resolve. This is especially so when treating darker or tanned skin or if there is significant UV exposure soon after laser treatment.

It is best that you see your performing doctor who will probably be in the best position to assess your condition and to determine if the dark spots are side effects of the pico-laser treatment.

How to get rid of dark spot on face? (photo)

Hi! This is a lentigene/sun spot. It is on the most sun exposed area of your face so it is caused by sun damage. The sun damage is from years ago but applying sunblock correctly and on a daily basis will help to prevent other pigmentation from appearing. Sun spots are generally more difficult to remove than freckles because of a higher risk of PIH. We usually combine a vascular laser (IPL or Excel V) with picosure to remove then sun spot and correct the underlying damage due to UV rays. You may need 1-3 sessions depending on the severity.

How do pico laser treatments compare with IPL on cost-effectiveness?

Pico Laser vs IPL Usage Pico Laser is emitted at a specific wavelength which makes it more targeted and effective at treating specific skin issues. On the other hand, IPL involves the use of a broader wavelength during the treatment. This means that IPL will be able to cover a wider range of treatment types Safety IPL can be performed by beauty therapists and not necessarily by doctors unlike for Pico Laser, which has to be operated by a medically-certified doctor.
