I agree with Dr. Chris. It's great if the patients can provide us with information on their previous breast implant surgery. Most breast implant companies would have provided a card which has the information or you can always check in with your surgeon for the details. This will help us to plan the operation.
Depending on your age, you may have had previous mammograms or ultrasound of your breasts. You should bring these along. I usually advise my patients to have a mammogram or ultrasound done before any breast surgeries.
Breast implant removal surgery can be performed with or without removal of the implants. Discuss with your plastic surgeon on the pros and cons.
Many factors will have to be considered including:
- the capsule
- implant type
- risk of ALCL
- decision for revision of breast implants
- etc.
Similarly, decide if you would want to replace your implants with fat grafts or another breast implant. SIEF (Simultaneous Implant Exchange with Fat Graft) is an increasingly popular option as you replace the implants which are a foreign material with your own fat, which can last forever.
The average cost of breast implant removal is around SGD 6,000 and it ranges from SGD 3,000 to SGD 15,000 in Singapore.
